Default The Morning After: Sox Pull Out Win, Cubs Blown Out

Sox Pull Out Victory In Texas
The Sox pulled out of a mini-slide and won the final game of their three-gamer in Texas, downing the Rangers 7-5. Down 3-1 late, a three-run seventh inning put them up and two homers - one in the eighth and one in the ninth - by Paul Konerko put the Sox up 7-3. Closer Bobby Jenks gave up a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth to make the game a little too close for comfort, but held on to give the Sox the win. Gavin Floyd allowed three runs over seven innings and earned his first win of the 2010 season. Next up for the Sox is a trip to the Big Apple to face the Yankees, starting tonight (6:05 p.m., WCIU).

Cubs Blown Away By D-Backs
There was a bit of ruckus going on outside the stadium and inside the stadium things weren't any calmer as the Cubs were blown out (literally and figuratively) by the Diamondbacks 13-5. Gusty winds out of the south made routine fly balls take on home run proportions and the Diamondbacks hit plenty, blasting four homers off the Cubs' pitching staff. Starter Ted Lilly gave up six runs in his five innings of work while the bullpen gave up seven more in the blow-out. The lone bright spot for the Cubs? A meaningless Kosuke Fukudome grand slam in the eighth. Yep, a meaningless grand slam. The Cubs try to turn their fortunes around later this afternoon and send Randy Wells to the mound in search of his third win (1:20 p.m., CSN).
