Default Cops Find Lots (And Lots) Of Knives On Raid

Long mugshot, via the Tribune
Chicago Police raided the house of Kevin Long, the man arrested last week trying to sneak four knives into the Daley Center, and uncovered quite a stash: 1,600 knives. Not only that, but they also found papers with the names of various police officers and sheriff deputies. Authorities indicated the names may have been potential future targets of Long's. Steve Patterson, a spokesman for Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart, told the Tribune, "We recovered numerous boxes of documents from his home and in those were several pieces of papers with police officer and sheriff deputy names on them. There was nothing saying a specific threat against a specific person but it was certainly clear that he was documenting specific people's names."

Long has been arrested 18 times since 2000 for a range of offenses, including being caught in a judge's chambers and public indecency. His name is also on a list developed by the U.S. Marshals Service and the Cook County sheriff's department as a potential threat to judges or court officials after he served 15 months in jail for telling a witness during a civil court case that he would kill the witness's child. This new raid has resulted in "dozens" of additional charges against Long, who was already charged with unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon for last week's Daley Center incident. In that incident, Long claimed his briefcase held "just papers." We'd love to hear his excuse for all those knives he had stored away; going on a walkabout with John Locke?
