In our absence, the food world saw its Superbowl event on the 4th of July (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nathan%27s_Hot_Dog_Eating_Contest), the hot-dog eatching contest at Nathans in New York. Patrick Bertoletti (http://www.deepdisheats.com/) is a professional competitive eater and took 3rd in the event this year (http://chicagoist.com/2009/07/04/chicagoan_finishes_third_in_hot_dog.php), but holds world records for devouring everything from pizza to PB&Js and is currently ranked #2 in the world. That's a long way from all-you-can-eat wing night.

Patrick - who we've talked to before (http://chicagoist.com/2008/07/28/jimmy_johns_entry_laura_and_marcus.php) - spoke with us about how one gets into the competetive eating community, strategies and training methods for this type of "sport," and if an eater on a world-champ level is born with it - or can they be created?
